training.gov. au is the authoritative source of Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) which consists of:

  • Training Packages
  • Qualifications
  • Units of Competency
  • Accredited Courses
  • Skill Sets

It is also the authoritative source of Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) who have the approved scope to deliver Nationally Recognised Training, required by national and jurisdictional legislation within Australia.

Organisations (RTOs) and Facilitators/Assessors in
locating and accessing appropriate agencies that provide guidance and information in structuring
training programs that meet the specifications of Training Packages and the regulatory requirements of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Sector Regulator.

The Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) embrace legislative and regulatory requirements that:

  • Set out the requirements that an organisation must meet in order to be an RTO;
  • Ensure that training products delivered by RTOs
meet the requirements of training packages or VET accredited courses, and have integrity for employment and further study; and
  • Ensure RTOs operate ethically with due consideration of learners’ and enterprises’ needs.

These Standards currently consist of eight Standards. Under each Standard is a set of Clauses. To comply with a Standard, the RTO must meet each of the Clauses.

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is the national policy for regulated qualifications in Australian education and training. It incorporates the qualifications from each education and training sector into a single comprehensive national qualifications framework. The AQF was introduced in 1995 to underpin the national system of qualifications in Australia encompassing higher education, vocational education and training and schools

The primary audiences for the publication are
organisations that develop qualifications and those that are authorised through government legislation in Australia to accredit and/or issue AQF qualifications and must use the AQF for these purposes.

Within the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) each qualification holds a ‘Volume of Learning’ which is expressed as ‘amount of training’ within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations, i.e. time occupancy from commencement of a qualification through to completion, and is expressed in months or years.

The Victorian Training Package Purchasing Guides (also referred to as ‘Implementation Guides’) provides duration (Nominal Hours) for full qualifications and individual Units of Competency.

As the national regulator for the vocational education and training (VET) sector, ASQA seeks to make sure that the sector’s quality is maintained through the effective regulation of

  • vocational education and training providers

Core Skills for Work Developmental Framework

The Core Skills for Work Developmental Framework (CSfW) describes a set of non-technical skills, knowledge and understandings that underpin successful participation in work. Participation in work could be as an employee, as someone who is self-employed, or as a volunteer.
